One Intern’s Impact on Social Media at Wish

Taryn Cunningham

Many of our employees here at Wish make an extraordinary impact that helps to drive the company's revenue and inspire others.

It’s no secret social media marketing is an important piece of Wish’s overall marketing strategy. While social media seems simple, it takes more than posting a photo on Instagram to deliver results. Our social media organization has grown to include interns who impact what our viewers see every day.

I met virtually with Wish’s social media intern on the German community team, Lisann Arndt, to learn how her work has impacted Wish’s growth in that market.  Lisann and her team are in charge of developing campaigns for Wish’s TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook channels, while also collaborating with social media influencers. She spends her days on our social media channels, while also interacting with influencers for marketing campaigns.

Product Of The Day

During her time at Wish, Lisann has worked in many aspects of different social media channels. She developed Wish’s Instagram highlight reel, known as Product Of The Day, which showcases a different Wish product every day. The impact of her development resulted in a boost toward Wish's transaction value.

Discover more about how Lisann’s content development has impacted the marketing world at Wish,  and learn about what she does on a daily basis that influences Wish’s social media channels.

1. What first attracted you to accept an Internship at Wish?

Lisann: “I loved that Wish was a very established company already. They were already really data-driven and showed a presence in tech, which I admired. However, I was mainly interested in the fact that they were in e-commerce, but approached it differently than Amazon. My favorite part about Wish is how they target households who can’t afford places like Amazon.”

2. What are your responsibilities as a social media intern?

Lisann: “My day is usually split 50/50. First, I work on social media marketing for Germany. I analyze what we see that is most engaging to post. I also contribute to the platform strategy and schedule all posts on those platforms. I take part in planning feeds, brainstorming content, and user-generated content in an effort to gather content and see what we can post. Second, I work on influencer marketing.  This involves being in contact with influencers, coming up with campaign ideas, setting budgets, and determining what target audience makes sense for each influencer.”

3. What is something you developed that has made an impact on Wish’s social media presence?

Lisann: “I have come up with multiple projects that have positively impacted Wish’s social media channels, specifically the use of our Instagram stories. At the beginning of my internship in February 2021, I came up with Wish’s Product of the Day on Instagram. Product of the Day showcases a different Wish product each day to drive engagement and sales of these products. We include the link to the products which enables us to see who clicks on the link, and who purchases the product. My development of this Instagram highlight has ended up generating thousands in sales since February. This has also led us to use Instagram stories more than standard posts, and we have seen that this allows for much more follower engagement. It is a simple yet engaging creation.

In addition to Product of the Day, I also created my own influencer campaigns. I started this by identifying specific niche influencers who are currently present in the shopping world, and see which people are influential in relevant shopping categories for Wish. My influencer campaigns allow for more engaging creative content and include blog posts I write once a week. The more we write, the better the blog platforms.”

4. What advice would you give future social media interns?

Lisann: “Be creative and think out of the box. One thing could work one day and not work the next. Always be open to testing a lot and analyze the content you're publishing so you know if what you’re doing makes sense.”

5. Why do you encourage others to work at Wish?

Lisann:Wish is a great place to independently work. Although I am an intern, I do not feel like one; I feel like I belong. Wish is a place where you can learn and challenge yourself to do better and come up with cool ideas.”
